Route 66 is probably the most famous highway in American history. Built in 1926 and traveled by millions of families, the route 66 sign has become an icon in American culture. There has always been something about this road sign that drew my attention, so I decided this would be my next project. This route 66 3d wood sign was made from reclaimed Cedar fence boards and measures 15″ x 15″ x 1 1/2″ thick. All the pieces including the lettering were hand cut using a band saw and scroll saw, sanded, painted with several coats of acrylic paint, and then glued to the sign base. The 66 sign was then sanded and painted some more, before being coated with 3 coats of Minwax Polycrylic in satin finish. This is definitely one of my favourites.
